Rev. Tom Newman

Tom literally grew up in Metaphysical Spirituality when he began attending the Shrine of the Master Church of Tampa at the age of 11.  He began his Metaphysical studies with Rev. Dorothy Flexer, who with her husband Russell founded the Shrine of the Master Churches of Tampa and Sarasota. Only the Sarasota church is still in existence today. Tom became a vibrational healer at age of 18 and upon graduation from college, entered into the business world in 1975.  In 1979 he moved to Sarasota and went to work as an Engineer with GTE which became Verizon in 1999. Tom served in various senior manager positions in the Network Engineering and Planning Department and took early retirement in 2006. Tom began giving talks and spirit messages at church services at the age of 27. 

Tom began his ministerial studies in 1990 and was ordained as a minister of the Church Metaphysical Christianity in 1995.  When Rev. Dorothy Flexer made her transition in 1996, Tom became one of the church pastors.  He has just celebrated his 17th year as the Senior Pastor of the Sarasota Center of Light and 50 years as a student of Metaphysics.  He teaches a variety of development and awareness classes in addition to conducting three church services a week. Tom has taught workshops and served on the platform at Lily Dale Spiritualist Camp in western New York for the past four years. He has also been the guest speaker at churches in Virginia, New Mexico, York England and several locations in Florida.

Rev. Susan Deegan

If it seems like Susan Deegan has been part of the Sarasota Center of Light family forever, you would be close! Susan grew up in the Sarasota area, and joined The Center in 1971. During that time, she had the distinct honor of studying under original Center founders, Rev. Dorothy Flexer and Dr. Russell Flexer. She continued to enhance her studies by attending workshops held by some of the greatest mediums of our time. These include renowned spirit masters such as Rev. Richard Schoeller, Bill Coller, and our own Rev. Tom Newman -just to name a few.

Today, Susan is celebrating over 17 years as a Certified Healer and over 10 years as a Certified Spiritual Counselor and resident medium. She is also Associate Minister at Sarasota Center of Light, so you'll occasionally find her assisting Rev. Tom with Sunday services and more often than not, providing spiritual consultations during Psychic Saturdays.

During her college years, Susan majored in education at Auburn University at Montgomery. Her desire to teach and heal was only complimented by her unstoppable positive attitude. It's no wonder that she now conducts workshops on prosperity and abundance. They are subjects she is very familiar with. Together with her husband of 41 years, Dave, they own and operate Engine Lab of Tampa, Inc, an institution in the national engine re-manufacturing industry. It's also a local success story in an economy that could have easily worked against them. Sue and Dave have two beautiful daughters. Carolan Carey

Carolan serves our Center of Light as a certified medium and healer. As an instructor, she offers unique classes on; healing, psychometry, spirit communication and introduced “Psychic Boot Camp!” to our Center. For the past five years, Carolan has been an active member and has completed two certification programs while training with renowned mediums. Carolan enjoys appearing at events such as; The Crystal Ball, Women’s Fest, Sarasota Mystic Faire, Naples Mystic Faire and Rosemary Rising. You will see her demonstrating mediumship on the platform and giving readings at our monthly psychic and healing fair. Rev. Lisa Johnson

Rev. Lisa Johnson has dedicated the majority of her life in the healing arts and the study of Metaphysical Spirituality. Her training took place in London, England, where she trained first as a nurse at the prestigious St. Bart's Hospital where she met the world famous healer, Harry Edwards. He became her mentor and teacher and always told her that she would travel to Florida and pursue her love of teaching and healing. Rev. Lisa joined the Sarasota Center of Light in the early 70's and studied under our founder, Rev. Dorothy Flexer. Further years of study earned Lisa her ministerial certification. Rev. Lisa has recently trained an advanced group of healers that serve at the Sarasota Center of Light. Rev. Lisa has her office in Sarasota and is offering a unique modality of mediumship, combining  healing and counseling together. This brings about wonderful results of health and balance, working with the mind, spirit and body.
