Home Is Where the Soul Is by Rev. Jim Toole
As each of us makes our way on our spiritual journey, we are continuously searching for that connection that not only makes a difference in how we experience our self and the world, it stirs within us the desire to join with others who are like-minded to share the inspiration we are. Whether we find fellowship in a center, a church, a temple or in our own community, where we choose to be together becomes our spiritual home.
Even though each pathway to spiritual truth is unique and different, each resonates with the vibration that through the law of attraction draws us to it. As we explore it we are awakened within to a knowing it is ours and we follow it. As we do, it leads us to a more intimate experience of our Spirit and more open to share the love and light we are. This allows us to recognize more clearly our spiritual home is where the heart is and we are reaching beyond our understanding, creating a like-hearted experience with our spiritual community.
The unconditional nature of our love opens the gateway of our soul to allow the expansiveness of higher levels of consciousness and a deeper and more profound opportunity to connect with those who are like-souled. This soul to soul connection awakens for each and all a true spiritual sense of purpose, truth and service in the world.
As we begin to be of service as our soul and answer the call of our soul in our lives, we become more a part of the spiritual family that begins to form as we connect at this level. This vibration and illumination that we experience individually and together transcends the limitations of life and allows for the unity of our expression to make a difference in the world.
What seems like a solitary pathway or journey for each, step by step, elevates us from our humanity into our spirituality, reminding us of the oneness within us and with each other. It is where we are able to experience this that we create community (common unity) and discover Home Is Where the Soul Is.

As an anthropologist, I derive joy in the opportunity to learn from diverse cultures, societies, and organizations. The inquisitive mind wants to know what is the cohesion that binds a group of people to sustain a belief system and uphold core values? What are the necessary ingredients for success? What can we learn from those societies that falter? Cultures share ideas, customs, arts and behaviors that are socially acceptable and adhere to a valued system of ethics and morality. Cultures are communicated and passed on.
Is the Sarasota Center of Light a mini-culture? Do we have shared values and a belief system? I would answer yes to both questions. Our belief system is explicitly stated in our Principles which we read at our services. Our values are clearly stated and agreed upon at induction ceremonies of persons becoming members and those elected to serve as board members.
As individuals within a culture, how do we sustain our beliefs and expand ourselves as a healthy spiritual community? Recommendations for success are:
• Involvement (Am I a part of this community or do I sit on the sidelines?)
• Support (Am I willing to assist by sharing my gifts and talents, giving of my time, being supportive financially?)
• Communication (Do I express my feelings and beliefs honestly and respectfully, with the intention of creating a positive outcome?)
• Courage (Am I willing to speak my truth in a compassionate, collaborative manner?)
The Sarasota Center of Light is a unique spiritual organization with a mystical foundation. It takes every one of us working together harmoniously to sustain and expand this culture for the present and for future generations. If any of you are interested in brainstorming the idea of cultural growth as expressed in this message, please contact me at email@example.com.
With peace and blessings,

Our Patriotic themed coffee hour for July was a lot of fun and was enjoyed by everyone.
The August AM coffee hour will be our farewell tribute to Catherine Kahlua who is retiring and moving away. We are celebrating with her favorite treats and she is treating us with her famous corn chowder and baked beans. Please join us on August 4th after the morning service and say “ALOHA” to Catherine.
Plans are underway to celebrate our Founder’s Day on November 3rd and an Elegant Evening with Spirit on November 16th. More information will soon be available for both events.
Collections of food for Everyday Blessings and household items & clothing for Stillpoint Mission are still being delivered to each of these organizations.
The Hands of Light team meets monthly on the 3rd Sunday at 5:30 in Davis Hall before the evening service. Please join us for fun and camaraderie.
All are welcome.
Your Hands of Light Team
There is a soul and spirit in every animal, in every flower, tree, every bird. When you work or live around animals, recognition of this God Spirit would be very helpful to you and to the animal. Be kind to pets. Don’t ever mistreat them for in so doing, you’re sending forth a negative vibration toward a life energy, the God Power manifesting in the form of an animal. Understand them. Love them and show your concern and interest.
The ones you work with, you talk with them. They’re like little people and we know that when you tell them that they’re going to be beautiful and win prizes and ribbons and that sort of thing, they know what you mean. They try a little harder. They are intelligent.
It’s kind of interesting for human beings to work with the animal kingdom in one form or another. It’s the ability to communicate; different from the way you communicate with human beings. It’s a challenge. Animals respond to vibration. Love is Love. You can get a lot of help from the angels in your project. They’ll give you all they possibly can.
You are loved.
Time, Talents or Treasures
We have been fortunate this summer to have had generous sponsors for our Summer Music Series. We want to express our gratitude to our old friend, Mr. Anonymous, for sponsoring our concert with Sam Lane. Saundra Maisey from New Hampshire sponsored the July concert with Eddie Tobin. Lise Frank has generously donated her services for our August performance. We have been blessed to have these great performances at our church and to have raised extra funds to refurbish our beautiful Healing Garden. We send many, many thanks to the friends of SCOL in helping us to achieve our goals.
Each of us has something to give. Sometimes we are blessed with treasures we can share. Sometimes we have talents that are just what are needed at the time. Sometimes what we have to give is our time to help get the job done. Each of these gifts is important in their own way, and each of them is necessary to keep up the continuing operation of our church.
Time, talent or treasures. What is it that YOU can give?
The Summer Institute of the Sarasota Center of Light has been blessed with the talents of two pianists providing concerts that raised the energy in the Sanctuary and fed the joy of those attending. We are very grateful to Debii Markaverich for spear heading these events. On Friday August 23rd, Lise Frank, will offer the third concert of the season, with a focus on classical and semi classical music. As we know, music soothes the soul and we are so pleased to have this opportunity in our spiritual home.
A Course in Miracle s-The Metaphysical Connection continues to be a “game changer” for those in attendance. We welcome people from the community who are learning about the Center by attending this and other workshops offered in the Summer Institute.
I wish to thank members of the Education and Marketing Committees for their tireless efforts in planning at committee meetings and then following up with tasks to assure that our classes and workshops are promoted and run smoothly. We are indebted to our coordinators for their help. Many thanks to all.
Blessing to You,
Joan Volpe, Chair

One of our Sarasota Center of Light favorites, pianist Lise Frank, has recently returned from Colombia, South America, her second home. Lise will be alternating with Sherrie Albrecht providing music for our morning and evening services. She will also be entertaining us with a classical piano performance at our final Summer Concert Series program at 7:00 pm, Friday, August 16th in the Sanctuary.
Originally from Atlanta, GA, Lise Frank holds degrees in Piano Performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and Indiana University, Bloomington. She enjoys an illustrious career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. She has performed with the major orchestras of Colombia and has performed throughout South America and the United States with many different chamber music partners.
Teaching has always been an important creative outlet for Lise as well as performance. She founded the piano department program at Eafit University in Medellin where she was an associate professor and concurrently taught piano and chamber music at the Antioquia University. She has been a faculty member and guest performer of the Chautaqua Institute and Sierra del Este Piano seminar. Many of her former students now hold positions at universities throughout the world. Currently she is on the faculty of Sarasota Conservatory and the Allegro Music Academy in Sarasota.
