Freedom of Spirit by Rev. Jim Toole
The 4th of July reminds us of a time when a choice was made to be free, to choose to live and be independent from Great Britain and adopt the Declaration of Independence. Each of us can sometimes feel as if the world around us and the circumstances of our lives control us. The truth is that each of us creates “life as we know it.” If we choose to follow our inspiration, our Inner Spirit, we are able to be happy, joyous and free in our lives.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This is not only an excerpt from our Declaration of Independence, this is a statement of truth for mankind. Everyone is created equal because behind and beyond the image we each portray individually, is our Spirit, the brilliance and beauty of the essence of our soul.
All of us are more than endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. We Are Life, we Are Joy; we are free to be who we really are now and always. We are the individualized expressions of our Creator as our Spirit, bringing meaning to Life and being our Joy.
Liberty is a word not looked at very often. Definitions include: 1) the state of being free within society from restrictions imposed on one’s way of life, behavior or views; 2) the quality or state of being free; 3) the power of choice. Liberty wonderfully describes choosing to live guided by the energy and light of our Souls.
The Declaration of Independence was designed to have freedom “from.” It is so important to live in such a manner that we have freedom “with” everything in our lives and that we are free to be our true nature, the Love and Light of our Spirit, right in the middle of the circumstances and situations of our busy lives.
This 4th of July, declare your independence from anything that will keep you from living completely from your heart and soul. Allow your inspiration and intuition to be the guiding forces that direct your thoughts, feelings and actions in your daily activities. Be the energy and light of your Soul, your expression of All That Is, experiencing the Freedom of Spirit as you and in your life every day. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
RAISING THE ROOF!! SCOL was blessed with an evening of fine instrumental music, joyful singing, playful sounds, and a marvelous, heart-warming expression of love at the fundraising concert on June 23rd. Thanks once again to all the musicians who volunteered their time and gave of their talent. Thanks to the members who volunteered in a variety of capacities. AND, thanks to the generosity of all who contributed to our most successful, one night fundraising event. Through your contributions we raised $2,000 towards the expense of replacing the Sanctuary roof.
At the June 1st Social for Visioning, the Board received input regarding the vision and mission statement for SCOL. The vision represents SCOL’s dream for the future of the world. The mission describes what SCOL can do to manifest this dream. The proposed statements are as follows:
Vision: A world awakened to the Love and Light of Spirit.
Mission: We support individuals on their spiritual path in a loving community
through metaphysical principles, mediumship, healing, education and music.
We are hopeful that you feel these proposed statements represent the beliefs and work of SCOL. If you have comments on the vision and/or mission, the Board invites you to send your input to the office. As always, we are grateful for your involvement.

“ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL”
Since the time the Declaration of Independence was issued to the world, many interpretations have arisen as to what the key phrase, “…all men are created equal…” really means. To the Metaphysician, being created equal means that every person is born of the same Spirit. Each individual is a distinct entity and yet is part of the great divine whole. Each possesses the same God Spirit within.
We each have a brain but have unique capacities for learning. Each has a face, but all have different features. As individuals we are endowed with particular talents and usually we have one thing we do best. Each one is separate in the physical sense and is distinct in heritage and personality. What creates the difference is how the Spirit manifests in each individual according to his or her heredity and environmental influences.
People come in different colors: brown, white, yellow and black, but all are human beings. In the truest sense, we are “soul brothers and sisters,” one with the divine and equal before the God Power and Spiritual Law. ~ Rev. Marie H. Rowe
SCOL’s Summer Series of Self Empowerment is in full swing, with classes and workshops planned through August. The upcoming events range from learning about self-healing, to improving your ability to receive and understand messages from Spirit, to the very practical application of self-care by avoiding burnout.
Intermediate Mediumship classes will be offered on Thursday evenings in August and September. Please contact Rev. Jim if you are interested in participating. September brings opportunities to broaden one’s spirituality through a Despacho forgiveness ceremony offered by Joan Volpe and shamanic journeying with Diana Mier.
SCOL is embracing our role as a Metaphysical Learning Center with new energy and resources. In the very near future, we will have eye catching signage on the Education Center—to be renamed the SCOL Learning Center. With a little “dressing up,” the Center will be more welcoming with enhanced eye appeal. If you have an interest in assisting this redecorating process, please call the office (941-953-6620).

Bylaw Review Committee
The Board’s Bylaw Review Committee is revisiting our Bylaws that serve the Center’s unique needs and guide how we do business. The Committee obtained members’ input through two Workshops on April 15, and a written Questionnaire submitted by members who chose to provide their input on the Bylaws. The Board and Committee thanks each Member who took the time to submit their Questionnaire by the May 13 deadline. The Committee is continuing to review those completed Questionnaires and developing potential Bylaw changes, as the next step in the process. Any changes to the Bylaws would be first reviewed by the Board, and then presented for approval by the voting membership at a future Special Meeting or the Annual Meeting.

The first Wednesday, July 4th, is dedicated to Healers Healing Healers in the Sanctuary at
6:00pm. All Certified Healers and student healers are invited to join us for this special time set aside for us to receive the gift of healing and to replenish our bodies and souls.
Our first series of healing classes is finished. Our new healers are now healing on Wednesdays and Sundays. A ceremony to honor them is scheduled during the Morning Service on July 8th.
Our Healing Team is here to support you in your health and well-being. Whether you are facing a physical challenge or otherwise, we are here for you in your daily life. We are always available to send energy, healing and inspiration.
Remember, healing is not just recovering from illness or difficulties; it is also a supportive energy to assist you in your life. Do not hesitate to call upon our healing team to be there with you and for you in what you seek to create and express.
Anyone who would like to receive healing may call or email the Center office or go to the contact page of our website and request healing for themselves or someone else. This can be in the form of absent healing or in person. In the case of absent healing, our group of healers will be notified and will work together to send healing to each individual or situation. Rev. Lisa Johnson oversees this process. Our healers are dedicated to be there with the healing you need. Someone is always there for you.
A mandatory meeting of all healers is scheduled for July 15th following the morning celebration in the Sanctuary. All healers must attend this important meeting.

Each month on the second Sunday at both services and at the Wednesday Candlelight service, a special collection is made to benefit a charitable organization. The total collected in June was $126 for Girls, Inc.

The special evening was a collaboration of our inspired and inspiring Music Ministry comprised of Director Suzanne Geyer, Terry Geyer, Mike and Debbie Markaverich, Gwen Griffin, Sonny Shake, Kim Sobbe, plus guest musicians Dave Trefethen and Jane Hoffman. Great thanks are due to each of them as well as to our Senior Pastor Jim Toole, the Board of Directors and the Marketing Team. Given the enthusiastic responses and financial support we received, it is safe to say that more musical celebrations of Soul are in our future.

Hands of Light
Dear Members and Friends………Blast into the Spirit of the 4th of July………All Year Long!
Hands of Light will be hosting a Fourth of July Themed Coffee Hour on July 1st in Davis Hall after the am and pm Services. You also may want to carry on the SPIRIT of the 4th by letting your Hands of Light Team know how you would like to be active with them. Starting on July 1st, Hands of Light will display a Drop Box with check off forms for you to choose your area of interest, e.g. donate for coffee hours or events, decorate, help with set up for events, attend Hands of Light meetings as a team member, etc.
We would love to talk with you about our team at the July 1st Coffee Hour.
FYI: Hands of Light meets the last Sunday of the month in Davis Hall before the evening Service.

July 7th, Saturday, Psychic Saturday, 10:30-1:00pm, 15 minute Readings – $20. Vibrational Healing – love donation. Gift certificates available. Davis Hall and Flexer Healing Chapel.
July 9th , Monday, Visioning with Gerry Greig. This is the 1st of 3 two hour classes. 7:00-9:00pm. Ed. Center. $15 per class. Participants will learn how to redefine the way they look at God and how to actually live life. Many are familiar with visualizing and the power of intention; VISIONING is a step beyond!
July 14th, Saturday, Strengthening Your Spiritual Core with David Winfree. 1:00-5:30pm (with brief intermissions), Flexer Healing Chapel. $40. How does one accomplish having a strong, vital and empowering connection with Spirit in our very busy world? This workshop will provide you with the basics of how to greatly strengthen your spiritual core.
July 16th, Monday, Visioning with Gerry Greig. This is the 2nd of the 3 two hour classes. 7:00-9:00pm. Ed. Center, $15 per class.
July 19th, Thursday, How to Participate and Get More from a Message Service with Diana Mier, 7:30-9:00pm, Ed. Center, Love Offering. Open to the seasoned and inexperienced, a presentation of an in depth understanding of what goes on between the medium, Spirit and you during a reading or message. This will be an exciting energy experience.
July 23rd, Monday, Visioning with Gerry Greig. This is the 3rd and last class in the series. 7:00-9:00pm. Flexer Healing Chapel. $15 per class.
July 26th, Thursday, Healing From Within: Native Practices for Self-Healing Part II with Joan Volpe. Please call the Center Office to register. 7:00-9:00pm, Ed. Center. $20. Participants will acquire techniques for self-healing and learn practices to maintain a balanced subtle energy system. Participation in Part I class and a knowledge of chakras is helpful but not necessary. A pendulum is needed for this class.
July 31st, Tuesday, Enhancing Your Intuitive Skills or Personal Enrichment Series with Rev. Marie H. Rowe. 7:00-8:30pm, Ed. Center, $15 each class. A series of six weekly classes ending Sept. 3rd. You will learn to unlock the key to your spiritual growth by: becoming more conscious of subtle energies, building a more harmonious connection with your guides, harnessing your own scattered forces, trusting your own intuitive ability and much more.
