Freedom of the Next Moment by Rev. Jim Toole

Holidays frequently include the 4 F’s, family, friends, food, fun, but the 4th of July includes the fifth F, fireworks! Although most of this happens as we celebrate this year, this is a holiday of history. It is important to remember what has occurred in the past in order for us to be able to live the way we do today. What about that moment that hasn’t occurred yet that is just about to happen? What does that hold for us to celebrate?

While you’re enjoying the holiday hold gratitude for our forefathers, that whether they were aware of it or not, constantly surrendered into the next moment and followed it in order to create the Declaration of Independence and all it means to us today. Be thankful for all that you have and all that you are as you watch the fireworks explode in the night sky.

At some point during your holiday, do three of my favorite things, stop, look and listen. Stop doing what you’re doing in the current moment, look around you and within you for what you have and who you are, then listen to the love, light, purpose and passion that is rising up in you as your next moment of expression and experience. As you do, the past will fade, the moment you are in will begin to disappear, and you will find yourself in a state of being that is the key to your future freedom and fulfillment.

We look to the eagle as a symbol of freedom, strength, vision, of our country. We see the eagle perched high atop a majestic tree, growing out of the side of a mountain, far above where we can reach. Try to feel the freedom the eagle must be experiencing in that moment. Now be aware of the eagle leaning forward, spreading its wings and letting go into the current of winds that will lift it into flight. Imagine what it feels like as the eagle’s talons let go of the branch it is holding onto and surrenders into the expansive blue skies it falls into.

It is in that moment just after letting go and just before flight that the infinite and unlimited possibilities of everything exist. This is the opportunity we always have, to BE, yes, but also to continuously surrender, not only into the unlimited opportunities the next moment holds for us, into the expansiveness and inspiration of how our hearts and souls fill that moment with purpose, fulfillment and freedom. On this 4th of July surrender into the expression of your Soul, All That Is, experiencing the Freedom of the Next Moment in your life every day. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

President’s Message

The only constant is change. We certainly have all experienced this truism. Some wonderful changes are occurring for the services at the Sarasota Center of Light. We invite you to attend the quiet, inspirational healing service on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm. Enjoy this opportunity for self-healing and the healing of loved ones. Our Ministerial team is actively involved in the planning and delivery of services. We are fortunate to have such committed and caring spiritual leaders.

Our dear Catherine Kalua, affectionately known as Kalua, will soon be experiencing a major change in her life. Retirement will bring the chance to enjoy all the things set aside while her career was in full swing. Moving to New Port Richey to be close to family offers joy and a strong sense of belonging to Kalua. We shall have mixed emotions in our send off to Kalua. Over the many years she has been a member of the Center, Kalua has sponsored 19 newcomers into membership. She served on the Board of Directors for 6 years, and has been an active healer at services and on Psychic Saturdays. We wish you well, Kalua and know that the Center will always be “home” for you.

The Board is happy to report that events for the solstice weekend were very successful. Pianist, Sam Lane, brought a refreshing energy and professionalism on Friday, June 21st to the musical selections that celebrated the Healing Garden. The drum circle which followed on Saturday, June 22nd, included meditation in addition to drumming. The group which met in the late afternoon enjoyed a peaceful, yet energizing time. We shall be happy to host another circle in the future.

For those of you who are taking vacations in July, we wish you safe journey. Have a great summer and we shall see you when your return.

With peace and blessings,
Joan Volpe

Blessing Bowl

Each month on the second Sunday at both services and at the Wednesday Candlelight service, a special collection is made to benefit a charitable organization. The total collected in June was $165 for Girls, Inc.

Healing Ministry

We thank all of our healers for being channels of healing energy and being of service at the center. Our intermediate healing class curriculum is being finalized and will begin July 15. Refresher and advanced healing classes are to be scheduled this fall. Anyone interested in learning about basic or intermediate healing please contact Phyllis Lambert or Rev. Jim. A Symposium on Comparative Healing Modalities will be held on 7/13 from 2-5pm in Davis Hall for $20. Please join us.

We had a great healers meeting on June 2. Thank you healers for the connection, fellowship, reminders about serving and the great discussion. Healers, please keep a look out for important information being emailed by our Healing Team Coordinator, Phyllis Lambert.

We are here to support you in your health and well-being. Whether you are facing a physical challenge or otherwise, we are here for you in your daily life. We are always available to send energy, healing and inspiration.

Anyone who would like to receive healing may call or email the Center office or go to the contact page of our website. Rev. Lisa Johnson oversees this process. Our healers are dedicated to be there with the healing you need. Someone is always there for you.

Education Committee

The Summer Institute is in full swing for July and August. The Committee is in favor of suggestions to expand our course repertoire on metaphysical subjects and to invite new presenters to the Center. In July, there are opportunities to meet new presenters and reconnect with former teachers. Please watch for the event schedule which is announced in the service Bulletins, on the website, and through posters visible around the Center.

Intermediate Healing will start on July 15th. This is a curriculum course for Center healers and shall also be open to community members who have had training on the basics of healing. A team of presenters, consisting of Rev. Jim and Associate Ministers, Phyllis Lambert and Jeff Rosenthal, will bring a wealth of experience and varying teaching styles to this series.

A Basic Concepts class will be offered on Saturday, July 20th, to individuals desiring to deepen their knowledge of Metaphysical Spirituality and the requirements of membership at the Center. There is no obligation to become a member by attending this class and the information is most valuable.

We are pleased to announce a concert on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. on July 20th. The pianist, Eddie Tobin, brings years of professional experience and skill to delight his listeners. This event is a fundraiser and we are hopeful you will attend and share information about the event with your friends.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Joan Volpe, Chair

Infinite Insights

Beginning again should be a way of life with all of you. Each day is a beginning again. Every experience of your life is a stepping stone. As you take these steps toward set goals, you find peace and success. When one has achieved one goal then you begin again with another goal so that one is constantly active in working with all of his physical and mental faculties and in harmony with the laws of the universe.

There are many of you who have encountered difficulties early in life, some late in life, all of which may have made you a bit despondent but if you can gird about you the vibrations of the power of truth and spiritual love, you’ll begin again every day with new thoughts and new ideas and understanding.

You cannot change yesterday or even a moment ago but you do have perfect control over every new moment.

Your life is your responsibility. If you want to live it in depression, mentally and physically, it is your power of choice, then that’s what you’re going to experience. The God Power does not direct into your life anything that you don’t deserve or that you do not earn. You must engineer your life mentally, physically and spiritually so that the God Power can work harmoniously and successfully for you. It is by your will, by your choice that you win or lose but win or lose, there are many doors open to you if you have the will to seek, the will to find, and the will to call.

Don’t ever live with sadness and frustration because these negative states of being will do nothing more than multiply their own kind. It’s far better to desire happiness, peace, joy and health with the assurance that all things are working together for your good. Count your blessings. Begin again every moment of every day and each time, doing it with a great assurance that you have access to immutable power and love and you shall never fail.

You are loved. 
