The Meaning of Father in Our Lives by Rev. Jim Toole
Father’s Day is a holiday created to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of fathers to family and society. The term father has multiple meanings, from the man who parented us to an aspect of the Trinity as God the Father. The meaning of father is woven into who we are as individuals and as humanity.
We can look back at our childhood and remember the influence of having a wonderful father, not having a father be there, or something in between. Although each of us may have had a different experience, our connection to our father runs even deeper than the interaction or relationship and profoundly affects us on many levels every moment of our lives.
For men, fathers and how they are seen, good, bad or otherwise, become a role model in our lives. For women, fathers represent “the perfect man,” the person they would want to have as a partner and father for their children. Many of our life lessons and karmic cycles are related to the kind of relationship we have had with our father.
Reaching beyond our own personal lives, it is important to recognize the soul connection we have with our fathers. This inseparable link influences the energy of masculinity within each of us, male or female. It relates to how innately we are able to “protect, provide, get things done and make things happen.” It affects our deep knowing of “safety, courage, strength and integrity.”
In order to benefit from the highest and best from our relationship, interaction and connection with our father, it is important to look beyond our earthly and even inner experiences to the essence and energy of the Spirit of Father. To recognize that we are the expression of Divine Masculinity no matter what gender we are or life we have lived. By embracing all that we know “father” to be with the Love, Light, Gratitude, Peace, Joy and Beauty of our Spirit we honor the blessings of father.
This Father’s Day let us remember our lives we had with our father with our mind, offer him the unconditional love of our heart, be grateful for the blessings we have received, and heal and release all else. Let us honor the Spirit of our Father and ourselves, the infinite, all loving and perfect expression he is and we are, recognizing The True Meaning of Father in Our Lives.
Have a Happy Father’s Day!

The Ministerial Team and the Board of Directors are carefully reviewing opportunities for growth and expansion of the Center over the next year. The Ministerial Team has suggested creative changes to our services which will enhance and deepen your spiritual experience. Most notably, starting in June, you will see a new format for the Wednesday night Healing Service, which maintains the peaceful and sacred tradition this service is based on. Please join us and experience the love and connection that arises when we set intentions for healing in this beautiful Sanctuary.
The Healing Garden will receive focused attention during the month of June. Fortunately, we have been able to repair some of the damage to our fountain.. However, there is more to be done to restore the fountain and the gardens to their original, beautiful condition. A fundraiser will be held on June 21st (the solstice) to celebrate the season and garner resources to “heal” the Healing garden. Through the years, the Healing Garden has served many functions for congregants and community members wishing to pray, meditate or simply sit and enjoy the beauty of nature’s gifts. A peace pole graced one corner of the garden (behind Flexer Healing Chapel) and was one of the anchors of Sarasota’s Prism of Light. The peace pole was damaged and taken down. At the request of a congregant the Board is now working to replace the pole with a new one.
Once again, the Center will be holding a Summer Institute of Education in July and August. This year’s theme is Metaphysics for Everyday Life. Please read the Education Committee’s column for more information. We hope to see you there.
With peace and blessings,
We thank all of our healers for being channels of healing energy and being of service at the center. Our intermediate healing class curriculum is being finalized and will be scheduled soon. Anyone interested in learning about healing please contact Rev. Jim.
Phyllis Lambert is in full swing as our Healing Team Coordinator. The healers meeting has been changed to following the morning celebration on June 2. Please join us for this important meeting, connection, fellowship and to enjoy some food and refreshments together. Please look for a reminder of this announcement and other important information being emailed by our Healing Team Coordinator, Phyllis Lambert.
We are here to support you in your health and well-being. Whether you are facing a physical challenge or otherwise, we are here for you in your daily life. We are always available to send energy, healing and inspiration.
Anyone who would like to receive healing may call or email the Center office or go to the contact page of our website. Rev. Lisa Johnson oversees this process. Our healers are dedicated to be there with the healing you need. Someone is always there for you.
The first Wednesday of the month, June 5, is dedicated to Healers Healing Healers in the Sanctuary at 6:00pm.
The Education Committee welcomes its newest member, Ranie Brothers, to the team. In our desire to serve the Center with a high quality of presenters and a strong approach to advertising our classes, the Education Committee has invited the Marketing Committee to join our meetings. After the first joint committee meeting, we quickly realized that this new structure will be very beneficial to the work of both committees. Through this joint effort, we avoid communication lag times and the Marketing Committee has “hands on” involvement in the decisions about the topics and the presenters. This approach will assist in the vetting process in the future.
The June calendar offers a Prosperity workshop given by Rev. Jim and two introductory workshops to “A Course in Miracles” presented by Joan Volpe. The Center will be celebrating the summer solstice on June 21 and 22, with a fundraising concert in the Sanctuary on Friday evening and musical event of drumming and singing in the Healing Garden on Saturday, the 22nd. We hope you join us for the festivities.
The joint committee is excited about the opportunities unfolding for the Summer Institute, which will be held in July and August. The theme is Metaphysics for Everyday Life. The summer program is targeted toward individuals who are new to Metaphysical Spirituality and to those who desire a refresher course in concepts and methodologies. Examples of workshops to be taught at the Summer Institute include: Astrology, Intuition, Self-Hypnosis, Spirit Guides, Healing Animals with Young Living Oils, Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain, and Meditation. We are pleased to announce that Jo Mooy and Patricia Cockerill, two renowned leaders in the local spiritual community, will be teaching the meditation workshop.
Joan Volpe, Chair
As you sit in the silence, it doesn’t just mean to be quiet. It means to enter into that state of meditation in which you can feel your at-one-ment with the God Power. That’s the real silence. In that kind of silence, at-one-ment, you receive all kinds of beautiful inspiration; it might be pictures, visions, dreams, inspired words, thoughts, but you must reach that state in order to receive it. Some people reach a point of using the imagination but that is not the pure inspiration. They want to receive and so they create with their imagination, out of their own mind. That’s far different.
You have to work to do it. It’s not done overnight. There are too many people who are impatient to develop and I can only remind you that the Master Jesus took 18 years of study, of meditation, of training, of practice before he was ready to work with the people to demonstrate the power as it went through him so that the co-called miracles could be performed. Now that was 18 years, not 18 years of going to one class for a week, one day a week, one service on Sunday or maybe every other Sunday, once a month or once every three months. He was in constant communication, contact and study, so he truly worked to develop his own inner being and his oneness with the God Power. So be patient with yourself and with your spirit people.
You are loved.

In the Spring of 1993, I was privileged to have served as a teacher and healer to Cliff and his wife, Ellie. They attended the series of healing classes I was giving. Cliff had a brain tumor and was trying everything he could to restore himself to health. Finally, about a year later, he knew he was losing the battle and getting ready to make the transition. He wrote a little eulogy for himself to be read at his funeral and he called it: Cliff Notes. In it he said: “I’ve learned that time is a gift. I thought I would have more of it. We need to take more chances and stop putting off our dreams. I thought I had time to become a dad: I know I would have been a good one. I would teach my child how precious time is and how limited. I ask each of you here what have you been putting off? What part of your life is on hold? What are you waiting for? Thanks to my teachers and healers who helped me to open my heart. Thoughts of death once terrified me! You taught me there is no death, but a release, a surrender, a passage.”
It has been my experience that when you teach someone healing, you give them a gift – the gift of learning to help themselves. When you teach them about death, you inspire them to live and life becomes more precious.
We express the God qualities by being the eyes and ears, heart and hands, powered by Spirit to help others. If we can bring love and peace to even one individual while we are on this Earth, we have given back of the gifts the Father has given us. Let us express our appreciation for anyone who has made a commitment to nurturing and supporting others.
