Our Father by Rev. Jim Toole
Each of us has had a different experience in life in relationship to our fathers. Some were there, some were not, some gave love, some caused pain. No matter our upbringing, we all long for and treasure the love, support, encouragement and safety that our father means to us in our hearts. For our human experience, we all have a biological father. For our spiritual experience, we all have an opportunity to create a relationship with the Divine expression of “Our Father.”
No matter what religion, philosophy or belief we hold true, there is an energy and dynamic of the divine masculine. The role and duties of our earthly father is a mirrored representation of it. These qualities of provision, protection, strength, guidance and profound love play a vital role in our relationship with and connection to God, Source, Spirit.
Whether we are male or female, our true nature, our expression of All That Is, must balance this masculine aspect of ourselves and our feminine energies in order to live a harmonious life. Being in touch with and working with the inspiration of “Our Father” within, strengthens our spiritual vitality and brings empowerment to the fulfillment of our purpose.
As Father’s Day approaches, let us remember our human and spiritual connection to our father and “Our Father.” One dear to our heart and one a part of our soul. Let us offer honor, love, respect and gratitude to our father, without which we would not be here and “Our Father” without which we would not BE.
I share with you one of my interpretations of the Lord’s Prayer. Have a blessed and beautiful Father’s Day!
Lord’s Prayer Interpretation for Father’s Everywhere
Our Father, who is here with us and in Spirit, We honor your name and are grateful we have it.
May we live in freedom, love and peace, As we choose to be “like father, like son and daughter”,
In our daily lives and in our hearts and Spirits. Let us live in the fulfillment of this moment,
In gratitude of all that you have given us and shown us. May we learn the life lessons you taught us and live by them, While we let go of our judgment against others as you showed us. May we remember your example and lead a good life, As we choose to be true to our heart’s love and our Spirit’s inspiration.
You will live in my heart, now and forever.
When I am at SCOL, it feels so good to be joined together with so many people in the power and energy of prayer: prayer for peace, for healing, and for the SCOL community. I know I speak for many who have similar feelings as we look forward to our time together at services, classes and workshops. How fortunate are we to be blessed with a campus of buildings and a magnificent garden! These blessings come with the responsibility to attend to and nurture the many gifts we have been given. During the last week in May our beautiful Sanctuary will be given a new roof, “coiffed with a protective headdress.” We are grateful that in this rainy season our sacred space is safe.
Our capital campaign will help to offset the costs of replacing the roof. A special fundraising concert is being held at the end of June and along with other efforts we are reducing the debt. Thanks to all who have contributed. However, we still have a long way to go. To date, we have collected $1,822 toward the $12,000 expense. We are the stewards of our sacred space. The board asks that you take an active part in the challenges of property maintenance and contribute to the best of your ability on a regular basis. In this way, we can assure the wellbeing of our Sanctuary for years into the future.
May your life be filled with blessings,
A BIT OF HISTORY ~
In the mid 1930s, one of Sarasota’s most colorful characters, Texas Jim Mitchell, opened the Sarasota Reptile Farm and Zoo on Fruitville Road near Tuttle Avenue, the site of today’s office park complex. Texas Jim, a former Hopi Indian dancer in a Wild West show, and his wife, Mae, reportedly started the venture with $14. The attraction expanded almost every year and by the late 1950s, its five acres were filled with alligators, crocodiles, snakes and numerous exotic animals. Texas Jim never forgot his roots. When the weather got particularly dry, he would don his Indian outfit and do a rain dance around the War Memorial at Five Points.
Texas Jim and Mae were good friends and supporters of Shrine of the Master Church, attending church services and the bi-monthly church dinners for many years. ~

The Education Team is very enthusiastic about bringing our message of Metaphysical Spirituality to the SCOL congregation and the community at large. SCOL is starting a SUMMER SELF EMPOWERMENT SERIES, with a wide variety of workshops and presenters including: Rev. Jim Toole, Rev. Lisa Johnson, Gerry Greig, David Winfree, Rev. Diana Mier, Ralph Steffen, Rev. Carolan Carey and Joan Volpe. We still have a few more openings in August and the Team is busily reviewing proposals. Thanks to all who have contributed. Please watch for the announcements. We look forward to serving through education.
In order to accomplish the work associated with having a learning center, we wish to acknowledge those who serve from “behind the scenes.” Eddie Muniz has agreed to oversee the work of the Coordinators and is now requesting names of those interested in helping out at workshops and classes. For your service, coordinators attend the event with no fee. If you wish to help in this way, please contact Eddie, who can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our Office Manager, Tina Smith, and Team member Elaine Davis provide the administrative and artistic skills for advertising and smooth operations from the announcement of a workshop to the date the doors open to admit the participants. For all that you do, WE THANK YOU!
We are hopeful that one of you with computer skills, reading this article, would like to volunteer to help the Education and Marketing Teams with posting of events on social media and our website. If you are interested, please call the office.
We are blessed with abounding talent, high interest, and a desire to live our mission of empowering individuals to progress on their spiritual paths through education and healing.

Marketing and Publicity
As anyone who attended our latest Music and Messages Service on May 27 can affirm, there is a surge of renewal and anticipation circulating on the SCOL campus. When Mike Markaverich played his inspired selections, we were reminded once again of how powerfully music contributes to the life of a spiritual community. And the messages of Diana Mier, Pastor Jim Toole and Carolan Carey expressed Spirit for our benefit with evidential gifts and gentle humor. On Memorial Day weekend, we saw grace in abundance and generous financial support from members and newcomers alike. Yes, even without firing up the grill, the whole experience was delicious!
Now we approach summer with fresh energy and a determination to accelerate the momentum of recent successes. The Visioning Social on June 1 was organized precisely because your input and creativity are invaluable to the future of the Center. Every idea born in our community represents an opportunity to expand the greater good. It cannot be overstated that your thoughtful responses and practical suggestions are always welcome. Our spiritual home needs what you have to offer.
Meanwhile, many thanks are owed to the extraordinary members of our Education Committee and a talented new Marketing Team for their endless drive and heartfelt commitment to the growth and prosperity of SCOL. It is a rewarding privilege to work with Pastor Jim Toole, Rev. Lisa Johnson, Board President Joan Volpe, Board Secretary Rev. Marie Rowe, Eddie Muniz, Elaine Davis and Suzanne Mitchell. The Spirit is strong with you all!
Love and Blessings,
Gary Mantz, SCOL Board Vice-President

Bylaw Review Committee
The Board’s Bylaw Review Committee is revisiting our Bylaws that serve the Center’s unique needs and guide how we do business. The Committee obtained members’ input through two Workshops on April 15, and a written Questionnaire submitted by members who chose to provide their input on the Bylaws. The Board and Committee thanks each Member who took the time to submit their Questionnaire by the May 13 deadline. The Committee is now reviewing those completed Questionnaires and developing potential Bylaw changes, as the next step in the process. Any changes to the Bylaws would be first reviewed by the Board, and then presented for approval by the voting membership at a future Special Meeting or the Annual Meeting.
If members wish to provide further input or have questions, please reach out to Bob Sadler, Committee Chair (email email@example.com) or any of the other Committee members.
