A Mother’s Love by Rev. Jim Toole
As Mother’s Day approaches it brings our attention to our mothers and the role that they play in our lives. No matter the relationship we have had with our mother, that inseparable heart to heart and soul to soul connection is one of the most precious in the world. A mother’s love is unconditional and unlimited, like the love we experience of God, Source, Spirit.
As children, we look to our mothers to be there no matter what, to keep us safe, take care of us and guide us. When we made mistakes, her gift was always forgiveness and then inspiration to get us back on track. All the while, her love is always there, at times embracing us, and when needed, cradling us, no matter what.
As we have each “grown up” on our spiritual paths, we have found our own connection to God, Source, Spirit. No matter how we see it or describe it, the connection we have is always there because we have come to understand we are children of God, of the Universe, of All That Is. We are an expression of Spirit, an inseparable reflection of the Love and Light of Life.
Through our understanding and working with spiritual laws such as the law of abundance, the law of attraction and the law of freedom, we have learned by giving unconditionally, being what we want to attract to ourselves and using our free will wisely. There are no limits to what we can manifest and experience. This is learning to take care of ourselves.
We know we are “safe” because we have come to trust in the infinite and eternal flow of the presence of God, Source, Spirit, guiding us for the highest and best through inspiration and our intuition. As we continue to stay aware and pay attention to the “sins” (the mistakes we make), we learn to forgive (ourselves, others and situations), continuing to grow in our knowing and being of ourselves.
The love of God, Source, Spirit is always there, embracing us, cradling us, no matter what, because we have come to know that we are the Love of God expressed. Just as we are eternally connected to our mother’s heart, we are one with the Heart of Hearts. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us remember the precious gifts that have changed our lives, the Love of Loves and A Mother’s Love. Happy Mother’s Day!
“BY A GRADUAL FALLING OF RAINDROPS, A JAR IS FILLED. HOWEVER BIG THE JAR IS, IT IS FILLED.” -Author unkown
SCOL is the jar, the vessel, that is being filled one person at a time with enthusiasm, talent, faith, and financial support. In the past month, we have reaped the rewards of a busy Bylaw Review committee and a Visioning Committee hard at work. We expect to hold a congregational meeting in May to review the work of the Visioning Committee. Please watch for announcements of date and time.
Congratulations to Gary Mantz who was appointed Vice President of the Board. We are grateful to have Gary join us. He brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to SCOL. Gary will oversee fundraising and marketing.
Congratulations to the new members of SCOL. We are here to support you on your spiritual path and look forward to your involvement on teams, committees, office help, and a variety of other activities. Please check with your sponsors or contact a board member to learn more about how your gifts can be shared. We also welcome all the new faces we are seeing at services. Please fill out a Connect card and you will be contacted.
It is time for some “housekeeping” of our properties. First on the list is flooring for the Education Center. The rug in the classroom is on its way out to be replaced with vinyl plank flooring. The new look will be fresh and inviting.
As rainy season approaches, the Board made plans to protect our sacred space by replacing the Sanctuary roof. A fundraiser is now underway to defray the cost of $12,000 for a new roof. We have already collected a little over $1000. Gradually, we CAN meet our goal. We are so fortunate to have this beautiful Sanctuary and the other buildings which form the SCOL campus. Please be generous. Remember, by a gradual falling of raindrops, a jar is filled.
With the best of wishes,
The first Wednesday, May 2nd, is dedicated to Healers Healing Healers in the Sanctuary at 6:00pm. All Certified Healers and student healers are invited to join us for this special time set aside for us to receive the gift of healing and to replenish our bodies and souls.
Our healing program continues and more students than ever have completed the first session, to be able to heal in the Sanctuary! Look for our new healers soon on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Every day we face challenges on many levels, physically, emotionally and mentally. Allow our Healing Team to support you in your daily life. We are always here to send energy, healing and inspiration.
Remember, healing is not just recovering from illness or difficulties; it is also a supportive energy to assist you in your life. Do not hesitate to call upon our healing team to be there with you and for you and what you seek to create and express.
Anyone who would like to receive healing may call or email the Center office or go to the contact page of our website and request healing for themselves or someone else. This can be in the form of absent healing, or if needed, in person. In the case of absent healing, our group of healers will be notified and will work together to send healing to each individual or situation. Our healers are dedicated to be there with the healing you need. Someone is always there for you.

Hands of Light
What fun we had at our annual Easter/Spring Event. The ‘eats’ were tasty, the games were fun and our guest stand-up comic brought us smiles and laughter. As always, the attendance of our Center community and Everyday Blessings made it all worthwhile.
This summer your Hands of Light team will be working to “brighten up’ our Davis Hall kitchen. We look forward to making and providing treats for the upcoming events in our ‘new look’ kitchen!
See you at the May Coffee Hour! If you would like to join our team you are always welcome to attend our monthly meeting on the last Sunday of the Month at 5:30 before Evening Service in Davis Hall.

Bylaw Review Committee
Our congregation’s Bylaws serve the Center’s unique needs and guide how we do business. Since the Bylaws need to be periodically revisited to ensure clarity and intention, a Bylaw Review Committee was recently formed by the Board.
The Committee obtained members’ input through two Workshops held on Sunday, April 15th morning and afternoon. A Questionnaire explained at the Workshops is now available to obtain your input on the Topics discussed: New Membership Eligibility, Voting Member Criteria, Board Vacancies, and Pastoral Employment Agreements. Other topics, options, and ideas are welcome! Members who were unable to attend either workshop are asked to obtain a Questionnaire from the church office or via email (from Bob Sadler at email@example.com). Members are welcome to submit their completed Questionnaire by Sunday, May 13, to the church office mailbox drop slot or in person during office hours. One Questionnaire submittal per member, please.
Any changes to the Bylaws would be first reviewed by the Board, and then presented for approval by the voting membership at a future Special Meeting or the Annual Meeting.
Robert Sadler, Chairman
Lots of times I feel my guides around me. Other times I feel like they are gone. Did they leave me? Why does this happen? Do I have to be in constant contact with my guides?
Your Guides don’t “leave” you. Their vibrational essence is as close to you as your breath. They are always on hand to guide and inspire you as needed. At times you are very active and need their constant assistance. In the quiet times they are still working behind the scenes on your behalf. Often we become so occupied we forget about them and may feel like they are gone.
The lesson here is keeping faith that your Spirit Guides are with you and always acting on your behalf. They look at the big picture and see much farther ahead than you. They set about preparing to lead you through the roadblocks that may be ahead for you. Challenges and stumbling blocks are a normal part of life’s lessons. It is our faith in our Guides that enables them to help us jump over, go around or avoid sometimes harsh conditions to reach our goals easier and sometimes in unexpected ways. Knowing you have assistance at the ready enables you to go with the flow and carry on while giving your Guides the opportunity to assist you in doing so. It is a two way street. You build a strong connection with your Guides and they help you. Through their work on your behalf, they learn and grow as well. We continue learning whether in the physical or the spiritual realms. You could say we are all “under construction!”

Marketing and Publicity
The SCOL Board of Directors recently gave me the honor of appointment as Vice-President. With responsibilities including guiding our fundraising efforts and seeking ways of attracting newcomers to our Center while raising our profile in the greater community, I am excited for the opportunity to serve in this capacity and ready for the challenges that go with the job. There is much to be done, yes. And much can be accomplished as we work together to extend the Flexer legacy of Metaphysical Spirituality, in principle and practice, well into the future.
What I have learned from many years of related experience is that spiritual homes are in need of loving and generous care just like the homes in which we live. Our current project to fund repairs to our Sanctuary roof after damage wrought by Hurricane Irma is a major example. A lot of creative thought and commitment to sustained financial support are necessary. I also realize the wisdom in the saying, “Many hands make light work.” Teamwork is crucial to our present and future successes. I look forward in that regard to building a team of “metaphysical marketers” to engage in the worldly business of making our ministry better known to many more people who, in due, course will embrace personal growth and new friendships at our Center of Light.
Many Blessings, Gary Mantz
