The Masks We Wear by Rev. Jim Toole
With Halloween approaching, many will go out to find costumes to make them look like one thing or another. The costume is frequently an alter ego or someone or something that is a fantasy or dream. In our everyday lives, are we aware of the “mask” or “costume” of our image that we portray every day? Now that fall has arrived, it is a good time to not only to look in the mirror, but look within, to see who’s looking through the masks we wear.
In our neighborhood on Halloween, most of the residents set up tables and decorations near their front doors or in their driveways. Hundreds of children and adults make their way past our door as one of their stops for the night.
I am always fascinated to see reactions, especially from the children, to the costume or mask that I am wearing. I realize as they’re staring at me they believe what they see is real. They look carefully, trying to understand what they are seeing and who it is. I will frequently lift up my mask and watch the change in how they respond to who I am when I reveal my true self.
We have each chosen a mask to wear that portrays who we think and believe we are. It is influenced by many things that we hold close in our hearts, our minds, emotions and our awareness. All of these are important, and yet, what we really are is determined by the pure, perfect expression of our heart and soul: the Spirit behind the mask.
We can take a look at how we’re showing up in our life and in the world by looking in the mirror further than the image we portray of who we think we are. We can allow the inspiration and illumination of our Spirit to help us remember our True Self. From this vantage point of the soul, we can determine whether we are using our mask to hide behind or we are living authentically by reflecting our true purpose and passion as our presence in our expression.
Let us take the time to come face-to-face with ourselves and recognize that true freedom and fulfillment come from letting go and allowing our hearts and souls to inspire us to see the Truth behind The Masks We Wear. Happy Halloween!

On November 3rd, Sarasota Center of Light will be celebrating our 70th anniversary.
Founder’s Day recognizes our history as well as a direction for the future. Drawing upon a collection of historical documents and personal stories of the teachings of the Flexers, we shall celebrate our unique past. On that day, the Center shall also be celebrating our position as a spiritual anchor in the Prism of Light, which was established years ago throughout Sarasota County. On Founder’s Day we shall honor the concept of peace by installing, once again, a peace pole in the original location in the Healing Garden.
On November 16th, we will be enjoying another Elegant Evening, where all guests receive three messages by our mediums. What fun to dress elegantly, enjoy appetizers and desserts, and receive messages all in the same evening. Seating is limited; tickets are now available and can be purchased after each of our services.
In order to prepare for our guests, we must ready our facilities (just as we do in our homes before visitors arrive). Hands of Light has the leadership role for both of our November events. They have asked for assistance to do a deep cleaning of Davis Hall, and for volunteers to set up for Elegant Evening and break down the tables the following morning. Another way to offer assistance is to make a donation to cover the expense of the food being served that evening.
If you are available to roll up your sleeves and help Hands of Light ready Davis Hall, please contact LaVerne Duff at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are willing to make a donation to offset costs of the event, please contact Joan Volpe at email@example.com.
We look forward to celebrating with you in November.
Many Blessings to you
Each month on the second Sunday at both services and at the Wednesday Candlelight service, a special collection is made to benefit a charitable organization. The total collected in September was $204 for the Emergency Assistance Fund.

We are here to support you in your health and well-being. Whether you are facing a physical challenge or otherwise, we are here for you in your daily life. We are always available to send energy, healing and inspiration.
Anyone who would like to receive healing may call or email the Center office or go to the contact page of our website. Rev. Lisa Johnson oversees this process. Our healers are dedicated to be there with the healing you need. Someone is always there for you. Let us know how we can support you.

The mind is a field of fertile soil, but what you do with it is up to you. How you use the God Power and your thought power in relation to the fertile soil is your choice. This being the case, it is time to disseminate a little more love, a little more understanding, to develop more tolerance, more forgiveness; it’s time to use our minds constructively so that while we are still in this material world we can do something worthwhile to make it a better place in which to live, for ourselves and for those who come after us.
