Who AM I? by Rev. Jim Toole
Fall is here! October brings a beginning of the change in the weather, how much light we have each day, and Halloween! Fall is a time to sense the changes within us and to let in the light for more clarity and decide, not only what we want to be for Halloween but who we want to be in our lives and expression.
As with many holidays, Halloween has become what seems to be a bit extreme. The characters being considered by children cover a full spectrum of graphic and detailed expression. In addition, more and more adults are deciding to “dress up” for Halloween.
When I was a kid, as best I can remember, :-), I wanted to be something I wasn’t, usually something bigger and better. Maybe a superhero, maybe a firefighter and depending upon my frame of mind maybe a villain. It was about expressing something hidden within me; on this day I could be anyone I chose.
As adults, every day we have the opportunity to look within to find not only our bigger and better, we can find our highest and best. Every one of us has what it takes to save the day like a superhero, be of service like a firefighter, and yes, each of us has a little villain in there somewhere. The point is, we have a choice to look, see and BE who we really are or want to be and we don’t need a costume.
We can let the light and beauty of the day in this season of change, “shed the leaves” of who we used to be, open up into the excitement of now and express our true nature. There is a statement frequently made about “wearing your heart on your sleeve.” As spiritual seekers we have an opportunity to wear our souls “on our sleeves.”
During this season of Fall with Halloween approaching, let us all throw open the doorway of our hearts and the gateway of our souls and enter into the sanctuary of our own Spirit. We can then take a closer look at our purpose and who we truly are. By living from the inside out we experience our higher selves and offer our highest and best expression while answering the question: Who Am I?
“The simplest way to Rejoice is to Count your Blessings and be grateful for them.” Author Unknown
We are in the time of harvest and the Sarasota Center of Light is counting its blessings. Our spiritual home is lively and stable; lighthearted and deeply connected; and most of all, loving. As our community shifts and grows, we see signs of satisfaction and acceptance.
A hallmark of the Sarasota Center of Light is spirit messages. A recent blessing comes in the form of two international mediums desiring to join us in service and offer workshops. Vincent Genna, never having served with us before, and Bill Coller, a medium with a long history at our Center, will be with us in October and November respectively.
Creativity and a willingness to serve through hard work and time spent are exemplified through the desire of Hands of Light to hold an Arts and Crafts and Tailgate Sale on October 27th. Details can be found in the Hands of Light article in this issue. The blessing we see is the creativity of this event inspired by Spirit. We are so grateful for the inspiration received and the YES issued by this committee and its volunteers to raise funds and have a day of fun at the Center.
Our greatest blessing of the season is the remembrance and honoring of our founders who had the foresight and spiritual guidance to “birth” what is now known as the Sarasota Center of Light. Our 69th anniversary will be celebrated the first weekend of November. Please join us in various festivities to show gratitude for our rich history and a future of spiritual growth.
With joy and blessings to you,
Hands of Light
Dear Members & Friends,
The Hands of Light team is gearing up for a very busy Fall season. Our biggest fundraiser this Fall is the Arts & Craft & Tailgate Sale event on October 27th from 11am-3pm. There will also be spirit messages by mediums and card readers.
Tables will be available to rent for a small fee in Davis Hall to sell your crafty wares to those who are shopping early for – dare we say Christmas, or just want to treat themselves. For those of you with culinary skills, rent a table to sell your baked goods.
So what is a Tailgate Sale you ask? For a small fee, you bring your car, loaded with your treasures that you want to move on, park your vehicle in a designated parking spot, set up a table in front of your vehicle and wait for the masses to arrive to snap up your goods and chattels.
Mediums and Tarot card readers will be invited to rent a table to offer readings.
All rental proceeds will be donated to Sarasota Center of Light, you get to keep the rest!!
For more information or to rent a table or outdoor space, please contact LaVerne Duff at 410-440-5288 or by email to email@example.com. Tables and parking spaces will be limited.
Come join us on October 27th to shop for what will be a spectacular event.
The Hands of Light meet on the last Sunday of each month in Davis Hall at 5:30 before the evening service. All are welcome!

Two people can think differently and yet both can be right. That which determines right and wrong is you, your needs and your vision. You attract what you need. Your mental attitude, love, spirituality, all must be considered.
Never try to judge who is right and who is wrong. Each person is responsible for living his own life. Your inner spirit will let you know your own needs and will help you to advance.
Have the spirit of tolerance. Judge only what is right and wrong for you and grow spiritually. Radiate a positive, progressive spirit and utilize the God Power for your life as you see it. Let each individual take care of his own life.
You are loved.

By Law Review Committee
The Board’s Bylaw Review Committee is revisiting our Bylaws that serve the Center’s unique needs and guide how we do business. The Committee obtained members’ input through two Workshops on April 15, and a written Questionnaire submitted by members who chose to provide their input on the Bylaws. The Board and Committee thank each Member who took the time to submit their Questionnaire by the May 13 deadline. The Committee is continuing to review those completed Questionnaires and developing potential Bylaw changes, as the next step in the process. Any changes to the Bylaws would be first reviewed by the Board, and then presented for approval by the voting membership at a future Special Meeting or the Annual Meeting.
If members wish to provide further input or have questions, please reach out to Bob Sadler, Committee Chair (email email@example.com) or any of the other Committee members.

The Sarasota Center of Light recently renamed the Education Center, located on Browning and Tuttle Streets, the Learning Center. Much thought went into the name change. As a Metaphysical Spiritual Center we are a beacon of learning. Our approach to education combines teaching through presentations and experiential involvement. It is this level of involvement which engages the student and encourages learning at physical (brain) and emotional (heart) levels. Our goal is to have the Sarasota Center of Light’s Learning Center be known as a leader of inspiration and personal power through knowledge.
During the month of October there will be many opportunities for inspirational learning and practical spirituality. We invite you to attend workshops offered by Vincent Genna on mediumship. Revs. Jim Toole and Marie Rowe will be presenting workshops this month which focus on deepening the connection to Spirit and drawing upon our spiritual core for lessons in everyday life. In addition, the Center of Light will be offering another Basic Healing class for those interested in becoming healers at services in the Sanctuary. The Center abounds with opportunities for learning. Please join us!
With kindness and respect,
Joan Volpe, Chair
