September FOCUS
Welcome to our September 2026 newsletter. As the autumn sun shines, we gather to reflect on our journey of spiritual growth, inclusivity, and the vibrant community that defines Sarasota Center of Light.
A Message from the President
We enter the Sanctuary on Sunday with the expectation of being spiritually revived, calmed, healed, feeling the comradery of others and loved. As each of us individually bring our thoughts and desires together, we create the peaceful atmosphere that re-ignites our faith in the divine. We greet each other, accept healing if needed, sing, and share our love, seeking what our soul needs and hopes to receive.
This beautiful Center meets our needs on Sunday morning; it revives us and gives hope and renewal to go forth into our everyday lives. We listen to the talk, the meditation, the prayers and the messages from spirit, but do we ever wonder how this is available week after week and year after year. It is here because of the efforts of our founders to provide the ability to utilize the buildings and houses to sustain the stability of the church. They have given us this beautiful campus and asked us to be the stewards of this wonderful place.
The founders have entrusted us to be the keepers and to continue to protect and grow the Center for the continuation of their legacy, so that others can walk through the doors and receive what they need as well. This endeavor needs all of us to remember that we are all responsible for the continuance of our Center. Stewardship can be shared in many ways, physically, spiritually, and with your financial support.
We wish to invite you to become stewards of our center as you enjoy the blessings and to help us continue to maintain the Center.

MINISTER'S CORNER
Happy Fall Equinox,
The Fall Equinox is September 22nd and is known as “mid-harvest,” which serves as a cosmic reminder of the delicate equilibrium that exists in the universe. It encourages us to seek harmony and balance in our own lives, with the physical world and spiritual world. Just as the earth transitions from one season to another, it invites us to let go of the old and embrace the new, emphasizing the connection between humans and the natural world. The equinox is a powerful reminder of this interconnectedness.
We are physical matter just like Earth. But are we in tune with the earth? Or are we more attuned to attaining material things by filling our days with running from one thing to another? As a result, we follow the illusion of time constructed by man, rather than the natural instruction of nature. The earth is moving in one direction, in harmony with the seasons, our goal is to move in the same harmonious direction.
This is a time to reap what you’ve been putting your life force toward these past nine months. It’s a time when there is an equal amount of light and dark present in a day—it is a powerful time to rebalance, restore, and refocus your energy. Also, because the harvest is not over yet, it’s a time to pause and look forward, to see where to best flow your life force until the end of the year.
My wish for you is time to rebalance, reflect, restore, and refocus.

SPIRITUAL HEALING
Spiritual healing is a gentle practice that can bring a sense of peace, comfort and balance during times when life feels demanding or unsettled. It offers an opportunity to become still, quiet the mind, and reconnect with yourself on a deeper level. Many people find the experience calming and supportive, helping them feel more relaxed, centered, and emotionally refreshed. Spiritual healing isn't a replacement for medical care, but it can sit alongside it as a source of personal and spiritual support, creating a space where you can simply receive, reflect and allow yourself a little time to restore.
Volunteer With Us
Sarasota Center of Light is built on community, and every helping hand makes a difference. Whether you enjoy working in the gardens, helping to care for our Sanctuary and buildings, welcoming visitors, supporting events, or have a skill or talent you feel could benefit the Center, we’d love to hear from you. Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet people, feel part of the community and help care for a spiritual home that means so much to so many. Whatever time you can offer, large or small, your help is valued and appreciated. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out and let us know how you’d like to help.

Our Ministers at Sarasota Center of Light are here to offer a warm, confidential and supportive space for those seeking pastoral care, counselling, coaching or spiritual insight. Whether you're facing a personal challenge, looking for clarity and direction, experiencing change or loss, or simply feel the need for a thoughtful conversation, you're welcome to reach out. These sessions are offered with compassion, respect and an understanding of the many different needs people face in life today. HANDS OF LIGHT
Well, the Dog Days of August are finally over, and we can, hopefully, look forward to some cooler weather, even though we do not witness the beautiful color changes in the Florida foliage.
Your hands of light team will attempt to bring in the feeling of Autumn when we decorate Davis Hall for our Fall Themed coffee hour on September 6, 2026. So come celebrate with us as we bid goodbye to the summer heat and welcome in the cooler temperatures we look forward to experiencing over the next several months
.
We will hold our 4th Quarterly Pot Luck on October 4th, so start thinking about a ghoulish dish you’d like to contribute to the Halloween Pot Luck. We look forward to seeing you there.
Our next Hands of Light meeting will be held on September 21, 2026. Everyone is invited to attend.

BLESSING BOWL
Each month on the 1st Sunday, we hold a special collection to benefit a local charitable organization.
The September Blessing Bowl recipient is Resurrection House.

LABOR DAY
In 1909, the American Federation of Labor created “Labor Sunday”, the Sunday before Labor Day, specifically to recognize the spiritual and educational aspects of work. That gives Labor Day a surprisingly spiritual history.
Florida’s growth was built by thousands of ordinary working people, from railroad workers and citrus growers to cigar makers, builders and those working in tourism. Many of their names have been forgotten, but their contribution still shapes Florida today.
Sarasota has its own fascinating connection. When John Ringling was building what became The Ringling Museum, around 300 members of his circus workforce helped with construction. It’s a lovely reminder that sometimes our contribution to the world is very different from the title we normally carry.
Behind Sarasota’s famous circus history were hundreds of people whose work was rarely seen by the audience, including costume makers, carpenters, musicians, drivers, riggers and support staff. The person in the spotlight could never have stood there without those working quietly behind the scenes.
Sarasota Center of Light was founded in 1949 with an emphasis on making spiritual principles meaningful in everyday life. Labor Day gives us a chance to think about spirituality beyond church, through how we work, serve, treat others and contribute to our community.
